Production is creating something that did not exist, in a form that can be used functionally. Discovery derived from perceptual acumen is not production although it can be of great value in a productive endeavor. The intertwining of these two can cause the distinction between them to become cloudy but no more so than the intertwining of means and ends, which causes the artificial separation of ethics and economics. At some point science needs to reach the zenith of contemporary understanding and then to step further so that the state-of-the-art science is along the cutting edge! Divine economy theory is on the cutting edge of causal-realistic economics!

Where Does Entrepreneurship And The Arts Come Together?

Artists are human beings therefore they possess the entrepreneurial spirit. In that sense the pursuit of anything by anyone is entrepreneurial but one thing needs to be understood and that is that humans can be actively entrepreneurial or in latency. Speaking specifically about artists and assuming active entrepreneurship: their end product satisfies at least one person - the artist. The 'latent' artist may even generate a product but it brings little artistic satisfaction to the artist although it could possibly be a commercial success!

All people are entrepreneurial, either active or latent, which is another way of saying that the human reality has the powerful distinction of the investigation of truth. The degree of the pursuit after truth is directly related to whether the individual is an active or a latent entrepreneur regardless of 'profession.'

True Education Ignites The Spark Of Our Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Cameron Herold presents great specifics and relates it to himself and others like him. No doubt the education system - which is becoming increasingly just a vehicle for propaganda - fails kids with special traits but it also fails everyone else too. I suggest that the potential for entrepreneurial education is even more universal.

The entrepreneurial spirit is alertness and this is an essential characteristic of being human. It is the human expression of the search for truth. True education would be all about nuturing the search after truth, in other words, true education is wholly about developing the entrepreneurial spirit.

Cameron Herold gives numerous examples of ways to encourage entrepreneurial thinking specific to production. No doubt that kind of entrepreneurship raises the standard of living measurably, but all human action that is inspired by the search after truth, whether it is material or ideal, carries forward an ever-advancing civilization.

In essence there is no such thing as education unless it is built upon igniting the spark of the entrepreneurial spirit in each of us.

Prices reflect the value consumers subjectively ascribe to the qualities and attributes associated (or thought to be associated) with the good or service in a world constrained by scarcity.

In essence, prices are a reflection of both the material world and the spiritual world thus mirroring the human reality. The material world is what it is; depending on the knowledge and physical limitations that exist (scarcity) at that point in time. The aspirations for more perfection in the reflections of the name and attributes of God is what is behind the insatiable desire that is driving what is termed as 'unlimited demand.'

The market is where these forces become expressed as prices. The market process is where the entrepreneurial spirit creatively serves to improve the conditions of supply and to refine demand.

Competition Is A Meaningless Economic Concept, By Itself!

Competition in the market is held up as a mighty emblem by the ego-driven interpreters but actually it is a half-truth!

The essential reality of the market process can only be understood by acknowledging and respecting competitive entrepreneurship. To single out competition, as is done in the pseudo-economic world of empiricism, is similar to claiming that the atmosphere is made of oxygen. Depending on the degree of knowledge of the claimant that is either a half-truth or ignorance or a lie. Light a match and see if the atmosphere is 100% oxygen!

To understand the atmosphere the rest of its components need to be recognized. To understand the economy - which is a reflection of human action - the entrepreneurial spirit has to be recognized. In fact the two are inseparable and so the correct description of human action, and therefore of the economy at the loci of decision-making, is to refer to it as competitive entrepreneurship.

Empirical economists who talk about and postulate about 'competition' are talking nonsense and are engaged in a fantasy that is destructive. Further, the ego-driven interpretation that necessarily stems from these empirical economists just fuels the fire of ego-driven interventionism which is scorching the earth: destroying wealth, undermining peace, and spreading corruption and strife.

Refinement Of Competitive Entrepreneurship Microeconomic Theory.

The stage is wide. It is as wide as human life on this planet. Apparently every human endeavor is an example of how the human psyche works and how it becomes manifest and operable in the world. These are the signs and symbols of the wonders of human life and provide fertile ground for advancing the human sciences.

Take the Olympics as an example. Ignore the childish side of nationalism but acknowledge the national cultural distinctions that facilitate interregional diversity and competition. It sets the stage for one of the things that humans inherently like to do and that is compete. Ultimately the competition is personal, it is competition to improve one’s own performance in a competitive environment.

That is one half of the story. At the core there is a dualism identified as competitive entrepreneurship. Humans always function within that framework. There are degrees of latency that lead to distinctions between individuals, and that distinguish the performance of an individual from one point in time to another point in time, and there are times when one of either of these dual characteristics (competitive entrepreneurship) is relatively more latent or more active than the other in the life of an individual.

It cannot be imagined when competitive entrepreneurship is not the determining factor in the development (or lack of development) of individuals and unavoidably the development (or lack of development) of human civilization.

Humans desire to improve their condition and humans have the capacity to be alert to the potential possibilities that could lead to an improvement of their condition. That is their nature and that is competitive entrepreneurship.

Subjectivism at the microeconomic level acknowledges that competitive entrepreneurship illumines the praxeologic and economic content of human decision-making. This is the reason that the methodology of subjectivism is realistic and scientifically valid. Refining our understanding of competitive entrepreneurship is what will advance microeconomic theory!

Is Divine Economy Theory Praxeology Or Economics?

The criterion used to make that determination is the one identified by Ludwig von Mises. Value judgments that can be based on quantitative economic calculations fall into the category of economics.

To the materialist a literal interpretation of this criterion removes the ethical foundation of economic relationships and although in some instances such an interpretation may not bias the analysis it nevertheless truncates the science of economics by removing a very important and essential aspect of economics. It can be likened to a body without the spirit.

For example, consider all the peach vendors in a city. Let’s assume that they all have the same quality of peaches (say they all get their peaches from the same orchard) and let’s assume that they all charge the same price (the vendors know that the people in the city have traditionally paid that price and that the culture of this particular city is traditional and conservative).

Now let’s say that one of the vendors is different from the others. He (or she) is friendly in a way that is very appealing. He (or she) cares about those who buy his peaches and this friendliness is readily perceived by those who buy peaches from him.

The economic result is the same as if this vendor had lower prices and it is exactly the same as having higher quality! The value judgment is preference of ‘a’ compared to ’b.’

Materialists may balk at this but as such they are really ego-driven interpreters who cannot see beyond the object and as a result try to remove the essential ethics from economics.

The divine economy theory identifies both the ego-driven interventionists and the ego-driven interpreters as impediments to the prosperity that is part of our ever-advancing civilization.

The Economics Of Good Will And Other Virtues!

"Each of us knows that having flexibility as a part of the order of things makes life much more enjoyable. Flexible order in our lives makes it easier for us to adjust to changes – the inevitable changes that occur in our lives.

Employers who provide an environment that incorporates flexibility will tend to have a ‘happier’ workforce that most likely will translate into a more productive and a more stable workforce. Also, customers appreciate having flexible and various options available to them if a product doesn’t meet their needs.

Flexibility incorporated into the production process, providing more options to employees and customers, leads to higher productivity and customer satisfaction, both of which are good for business. Here we have customer satisfaction as one possible example of the ‘goods and services’ emerging from flexibility."

And next the second of six examples:

"No one is offended by being treated with courtesy. It inspires greater respect for oneself and, most definitely, greater respect for the courteous person.

Since the market is the embodiment of social cooperation, courtesies become the norm. If it is courteous to be on time that becomes the standard, ‘out of courtesy.’ And each time these courteous practices are applied the social relationships advance to new levels of mutual respect. As a consequence cooperation and coordination improves.

Here we have market cooperation and coordination as an example of the service emerging from courtesy. By acquiring and practicing courtesy work relationships will change and there will be a tremendous increase in productivity since cooperation and coordination will increase."

Understanding Profit Is Pretty Basic!

Following logic similar to that of Turgot: The purpose of production is profit so that the fruits of production can be purchased and consumed!

What could be more basic? Who is opposed to consumption, and if so, they will perish from starvation soon and no longer will there be any to say that they are opposed to consumption?

To consume requires acquisition of consumption goods which requires a productive endeavor yielding an income. Productive endeavor yielding an income is profit!

In contrast, a productive endeavor that fails to yield an income is loss. This will not be chosen again or emulated by anyone who is trying to live prosperously.

Profitable endeavors will be the ones pursued and these will yield fruits of production that will enrich society and thereby increase prosperity.

Why Are Anti-Capitalists Against Profit?

It all stems from a misunderstanding of usury. Usury was maligned as ‘unproductive’ but that was because of economic ignorance and the same economic ignorance continues today.

Usury, or the charging of interest, is nothing more than an exchange of a present good for a future good. Which do you prefer: $100 now or $105 a year from now? How much would you be willing to accept one year from now instead of $100 today? The point is: all humans have a time preference, they prefer things now over the same thing in the future.

So to be on equal ground, to be able to compare values, the present value of future goods needs to be compared to the value of the present good. Charging interest is simply the cost associated with paying the lender back in full sometime in the future.

Capital as a resource is nothing more than borrowing what is needed to hire the productive resources now even though it will be sometime in the future before there is any revenue. The profit is the equivalent of full compensation for all of the resources needed in the production process, including the human resources of the entrepreneur and the ones who provide the capital. Without the entrepreneur and the capitalist none of the other factors (land and labor) would have received their incomes.

Profit is maligned and capital is maligned and usury has been maligned all because of economic ignorance. It is this ignorance that underlies socialism.

In the interim between 2006 when I published DIVINE MICROECONOMY: A Tapestry of Human Virtues and the present I became aware of a book written by Milton Shapiro. It came to my attention when I was browsing on the Mises Institute website where it was very highly recommended as a book about microeconomics from an Austrian economics perspective.

Dr. Milton Shapiro considers himself a devoted student of Mises, who he says ‘humanized economics.’ Inspired by Human Action and other works of Ludwig von Mises Milton Shapiro wrote Foundations of the Market Price System.

I found myself greatly impressed with this book written by Dr. Shapiro, who taught economics at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona for 25 years. After corresponding and speaking with Dr. Shapiro he agreed to allow me to acknowledge my indebtedness to the clarity and precision of his insights put forth in his book.

Part of my indebtedness to Dr. Shapiro is due to the information conveyed in the diagrams found in Foundations of the Market Price System which I modified and used in Chapter Three to help me to describe the core economic concepts. These include Diagram III B, Diagram III C, Diagram III D, Diagram III E, Diagram III F, Diagram III G, Diagram III H, and Table III A.

The HUMAN ESSENCE of Economics

Foreword

This is a book about economics. It includes the expected discussion of topics such as supply and demand, profit and loss, and market-clearing price. It also includes charts and graphs, but disaffected students of economics will be relieved to know that those are easy to understand and relatively sparse.

But this is much more than an economics book. It is fashionable in our contemporary culture to adopt a philosophical approach of pure materialism/empiricism. Whether the field is physics, evidence-based medicine, or economics, one begins with the ideas that 1) everything that happens can be explained by the interaction of matter and energy, and 2) that only results that can be directly observed and measured are meaningful. Bruce Koerber understands that embracing these ideas leads to restricted, incomplete, and sometimes misleading interpretation of results. Instead he approaches economics much as the pioneers of the physical sciences did in the 1600s.

Researchers such as Kepler, Boyle, and Newton discerned that there was a certain order to the universe. They sought to discover and understand the principles by which it operates. They did not view this natural order as accidental, but reflective of the system's Designer. Without this conviction that orderly principles exist, they would have had no reason to undertake the search that led to the discovery of important laws of physics and chemistry.

The author of this book begins with the premise that human beings are more than just material entities. Human nature includes a spark of the divine and therefore reflects—albeit in an incomplete and broken way—the divine nature. This human image of the divine gives mankind goals and wants beyond material needs, pleasure, and pain. We humans are cognizant of the past, have aspirations for the future, and understand that posterity will transcend our own lifetimes. We contemplate concepts of order, justice, cooperation, love, charity, and mercy. And while we share certain experiences, we each have our subjective consciousness which distinguishes us as individuals.

The discussion acknowledges that the economy comprises the decisions of a multitude of individuals, each one motivated by material needs but also by goals and values that transcend the material. The Divine Economy results when these individuals interact according to their own desires and needs, but also in pursuit of goals such as unity, compassion, and justice. Since individuals act subjectively, the economy is never completely predictable and never static. It seeks equilibrium without achieving it. This dynamism, as the root word implies, provides the energy that the economy needs to adapt.

This type of analysis also clarifies why it is folly to attempt to "manage" the economy in a meaningful way through central planning. The decisions of bureaucrats, no matter how selfless or well intentioned, cannot replace nor meet the individual goals of thousands of people. Attempts to change the inherent principles of the economy produce distortions of commerce in the short run, and ultimately fail. When the economy is allowed to operate according to its divinely-inspired principles, it can thrive.

Read this book thoughtfully, not to amass facts, but to appreciate its principles. Perhaps reflection on the Divine Economy Model will lead to new understanding of your own goals. And you will see that the economy is designed to serve both temporal and eternal purposes.

Being Debt Free Makes Detachment Easier!

What is the real reason humans aspire to be debt free? Is it to unbind the shackling effect of debt? Is it to have the freedom to pursue one’s goals without any impositions by others?

With regards the independent investigation of truth it is fairly easy to recognize the potential consequences of being indebted to someone else. Maybe there are constraints that limit the possible avenues of exploration, depriving you of that opportunity and thereby lessening your powers of discernment.

Consider the difference between an entrepreneur with capital and an entrepreneur without capital. Regardless of the quality of the entrepreneurial discovery there are significantly greater restrictions once debt enters into the picture.

Now consider leisure! The burden on the soul, of debt, is very clear. Consider when a person cannot pursue their highest desires because of a mutually agreed upon contract that channels their human resources towards debt, in lieu of leisure.

Freed from debt, these circumstances change. Freed from debt a person can independently investigate the truth. Freed from debt a person can pursue their highest desires.

Now what about detachment? It is no coincidence that the human aspiration ultimately is towards the investigation of truth and the pursuit of their highest desires. That is an essential quality of being human. It is therefore a part of natural law!

The question then becomes, “What is real?” The spiritual reality of human beings is real. The physical reality of human beings is an objectification of the spiritual reality. Within this framework each person discovers his or her purpose.

Detachment is a relative condition related to each person’s purpose. The greater the detachment the more willing the individual is to find the spiritual meaning behind all of their God-given gifts.

Being debt free makes detachment easier! And so there is a natural tendency for humans to become debt free unless they are indoctrinated by ego-driven interventionists or ego-driven interpreters instead of being educated in the true sense of the word.

Seeking Wealth? Here Is The Best Means.

The best means, if you are seeking wealth, is the independent investigation of truth.

First we need to find a common understanding of wealth. Having oodles of cash does not necessarily mean that you are wealthy. Having oodles of caring and loving friends even though you struggle to make ends meet may mean that you are very wealthy.

If an individual has vast ‘wealth’ as close as his (her) life vein but is not really aware of it, probably that individual will be poor even if there are stacks and stacks of money and assets readily available for multitudinous uses. What could it be that is that close and that valuable. The answer is the human reality.

Humans are empowered with the ability to search for the truth and because each individual is unique that search is fully exercised and expressed only when it is unencumbered, that is, when it is independent. Who else can investigate the truth for you? Without it being your search it can never fulfill your uniqueness.

That is step one - know yourself.

Can you imagine ever searching without there being questions? Questions and searching go hand in hand. No one knows your questions! No one can pursue the search that is uniquely yours!

So let’s start with what we know is wealth since that is what we are seeking. Having caring and loving friends is wealth! We recognize, then, that to care and to love is also wealth. We have identified aspects of wealth that do not even require any worldly status such as inheritance, prestigious occupation, etc.

Therefore search for wealth by finding the human virtues that enrich yourself and others. Your potential to reflect your unique array of virtues constitutes your true wealth because that constitutes your unique human reality. Rest assured, the objectification of your ‘spiritual’ wealth will translate into 'wealth' - as most people define it!

Recommended Requirement For MBA Candidates.

When the next generation of business leaders finish their education will we be able to feel confident that their efforts will make the world a better place? Education is not just learning techniques and maneuvers. There is a caveat: education can be an indoctrination.

I think that most people would associate 'freedom' with an exhilarating yet serene feeling associated with an unconstrained existence. This is perceptually accurate, not to be confused with a tangible unconstrained existence because tangible unconstrained existence, as a universal freedom, is impossible in a world with more than one person.

The point that I am making is that freedom has structure and therefore prosperity has structure. Having structure is not a negative (it is not constraining) as along as it is natural, that is, as long as the structure is not made artificial by intervention for purposes of coercion.

The natural structure of freedom supports the structure of individual prosperity. Humans are subjective with the freedom to see the world from their own perspective. Humans have logic which enables them to see cause and effect which, in turn, leads to the freedom to choose means and the freedom to choose ends. This is the structure of freedom.

With this structure of freedom in place prosperity follows. Divine microeconomy theory delves deeply into this subject and the structure of individual prosperity can be seen up close and personal in the Divine Microeconomy Model ©. How can we tell if someone knows (understands) how the economy works? If the person refers to the economic actions of individuals and then attributes their behavior to striving for excellence and the acquisition of virtues then they pass the litmus test. Even if this is not specifically referred to, but implied, then there is evidence of economic understanding.

By definition, a litmus test is a test in which a single factor determines the outcome. To have a single factor as a determinant is a tremendous tool for analysis. It turns out that all of the economic commentary about how the microeconomy works, whether made verbally or in written form, whether presented in an academic medium or pronounced to be true in the popular media, can be tested easily.

Value and wealth only have meaning and the human institution of the economy only exists because we are human. Without humans these (value, wealth, and economy) would be irrelevant!

Value and wealth are inseparable from the attributes of God that we call virtues. We buy because of the prospect of more beauty, power, peace, justice, mercy, contentment, strength, love, etc. I highlighted the word 'more' because it demonstrates the inherent striving for excellence that is part of the human operating system. These are what we value and acquisition of these in all the various forms constitutes our wealth. The economy is the institution that encompasses all of the actions related to these human functions.

Any economic pronouncement that takes the stance that there is no connection between the economy and the ethical foundation of human action fails the litmus test. Quickly such pronouncements can be relegated to the dustbin of economic quackery.

To begin let us place value and wealth in juxtaposition to each other. They are not the same but they are related to each other.

Wealth is the attainment of things that have value. And what makes things valuable is that they confer wealth.

According to the divine microeconomy theory the origin of value can be traced to the manifestation of the virtues or the names of God in things, that is, in things that are ideal and/or material.

So it is that prosperity is the freedom to be exposed to ideal and material things that manifest the names of God and prosperity is the freedom to acquire those ideal and material things that manifest the names of God.

The necessary condition of prosperity is freedom. The necessary condition of value is for the 'thing' to possess the quality of an array of inherent virtues. The necessary condition for wealth is acquisition of those 'things' that have value.

Individual prosperity has to do, ultimately, with connecting oneself to the names of God such as mercy, grace, might, joy, etc. Of course the freedom inherent in the divine economy theory is conducive to prosperity whereas intervention disrupts the freedom underlying prosperity.

It is by this assurance that human endeavor moves forward. It is a quality that guarantees recompense. Trustworthiness is therefore a key for the door to prosperity.

Although it is an inherent human attribute, like all virtues, its manifestation is acquired through education. If you know how the economy works, undeniably it rests upon trust. Exchange and cooperation depend upon confidence in the trustworthiness of each other.

If you look at societies that are breaking down it is because their structure has lost its foundation of trustworthiness. My next entry in the divine economy blog will examine trustworthiness at the macro level.

At the micro level - the divine microeconomy - we see trustworthiness as a vital aspect of the human spirit. It exists in various degrees of latency and is turned into an active state through education. This education may or may not come from a formal system of instruction but it definitely comes from interacting with others in the market process.

Its highest form of expression is when it is practiced while engaging in the economic processes of life, and while at the same time actively trying to connect the underlying motive with ethics. What began as an extension of classical liberalism in a direction that went significantly farther than laissez-faire has now become a comprehensive scientific economic theory. The initial proof was to demonstrate that any and all meddling with the economy would be counterproductive due to the immense complexity of the economy. To illustrate the concepts I developed the Divine Economy Model © which, effectively, launched the divine economy theory.

Then I developed a model that would represent human action at the level of each individual. The Divine Microeconomy Model © went deep to look at the spark igniting action. It turns out what catches the attention of humans and then what conveys the value that underlies the resulting human action is most easily described as the names and attributes of God.

When I delved into the divine economy theory at the level of the individual I found how the origin of all value comes from the appearance of the names and attributes of God. There was, nowhere in economic science, any avenue for continued exploration along these lines.

What became clear was that the science of economics, in an effort to be 'objective' and specialized, instituted certain boundaries. In effect it institutionalized a rigidity which has, up until now, prevented the science from even trying to extend into these areas. To do so was regarded as 'unscientific.'

Guess what, I am willing and able to prove the scientific basis of the divine economy theory, toe to toe, with any economist of any persuasion. When there is intervention individuals suffer directly and indirectly. The indirect consequences of intervention have much to do with the misbehavior of individuals because of the distorted incentives that emanate from the corruption associated with all types and degrees of intervention.

There is a limit to the parasitism of intervention since the source of all value is the appearance of the attributes and names of God. When the chaos and distortions of intervention get severe enough for the individual to finally seek real value, then corrections are made. Products attract us because they increase our satisfaction, they help us in our quest. Likewise, our contribution to the division of labor in some way does the same for others.

Look at what happens in a world that upholds property rights. In a system where property rights are honored and secured the product fulfills its integrity, and yet it may or may not fulfill what we imagined as its potential. As long as the product upholds its integrity the principle of trustworthiness remains intact.

If lies are used to persuade, immediately trustworthiness is torn away from normal and ethical human association. This is the method and means of the politician at all levels: local, regional, national and international.

Because of the distorted contemporary world condition the politicians have clout and their corrupting influence affects almost all facets of economic life. They and their untruthfulness and confiscatory actions encourage the same favor-seeking behavior from others.

Trustworthiness, which is the major building block of civilization, is continually weakened by the invasion of politicians into more and more aspects of human affairs. Why don't people demand that the politicians speak the truth and stop treating the property of others as if it is under their control?

As an economic consultant I affirm that one major prescription - to heal the divine economy - is to hold all politicians accountable. If they promise something that does not even belong to them then they need to be held accountable and charged with theft. If they say things that are not true then the media has the responsibility to expose the falsity of their claims.

When we create an environment that encourages trustworthiness we will have prosperity and an ever-advancing civilization.

Sant' Antonio was a significant contributor to economic theory along with the other contributors during the Late Scholastic period. He took the abstract principles of theology and ethics and applied them to the detailed empirical data of daily life.

This will be a rather brief blog entry. This is because: a thorough understanding of gold at the microeconomic level requires a breakthrough in economic theory since gold lies at the cusp. What I mean to say is that a more illuminating analysis lies in potential and will be presented at a later date, once the divine economy theory is expanded to encompass the realm of ethics. That is the exploration of my third book.

For the time being, gold represents a standard of purity that is trusted by everyone. Every encounter with this gold standard tests the trustworthiness of those in the mix. If a thought emerges to alter its purity, by altering the value in some manner, then the test is ultimately a test of character. It serves as an alarm. It, therefore, provides an anchor for the human conscience.

Those who have a character too weak will error and be discovered. The market process eventually finds this error because someone will lose property. These individuals with flawed character are in need of counseling. They need to develop their character so they can function in a way that protects property rights and human rights.

So what we see is this: gold allows trust and trustworthiness to flourish and it also serves as an indicator. It indicates which individuals need education and care so that they can become trustworthy. At the macro level the gold standard indicates which institutions are untrustworthy.

Divine Economy Theory - Empirical Without Empiricism!

Divine economy theory is not limited; it is not exclusive of logic and theory. Nevertheless, it does find empirical expression in the real world actions by human beings.

Some of the knowledge in divine economy theory comes from experience, information gathered particularly from sensory observation, but that does not mean that the complexity of human beings is condensed into pieces of data - which is what empiricism does. Empiricism is a variant of atheism, as it is used in the social sciences. We've gone down the road of empiricism and it leads to the land of nonsense!

One of the great weaknesses of empiricism is the setting of artificial limitations on the human reality. A simple example will suffice: a photograph of your loved one is more valuable than the chemicals and paper making it up, and it is more valuable than a photograph of the exact same setting taken of people that you do not know. To claim the right to quantify these distinctions is arrogant and erroneous. This great weakness renders empiricism void in the social sciences.

That does not mean that experiences are not real or valid! Empirical information contributes a great deal to our knowledge and provides points of inspiration that advance theory and stimulate our logic.

For instance, if a business owner has a character flaw that is jeopardizing the success of the business, say an uncooperative attitude, and then decides to make changes there will be favorable real world consequences. These are qualitatively measurable. These are documentable and repeatable. Advice can be given to others based on this empirical information.

In this day and age economic science is mostly irrelevant because it is sunk in the atheism and darkness of empiricism.

Even though the natural sciences require a different methodology than the social sciences the parallels are instructive. Since human action is the essence of the social sciences and since humans make decisions subjectively the appropriate methodology for the social sciences is subjectivism. The appropriate methodology for the natural sciences is empiricism.

In the natural sciences the micro analysis uncovers greater and greater mysteries filling the unbiased observer with awe and wonder. Likewise the natural scientists who are striving for an understanding of macro worlds - the 'universe' if it can be delimited by such a puny word - find themselves overwhelmed and reduced to complete bewilderment at the glory of the infinite. These two ends of the natural science path lead to a love for the Creator.

In the social science of economics there is a parallel experience. This is especially evident now that the divine economy theory is available to all those seeking a deeper understanding of purposeful action by spiritual beings.

At the micro level there is the discovery that all things, material or ideal, have value because they are the reflection of the attributes of God. Human beings are irresistibly drawn to these names of God because our 'operating system' functions according to the decree - created in His Image. Even if persons are completely devoid of faith in God they, nevertheless, are attracted to the presence of these attributes in the things that they value. Hence all economic value originates in the evidences of these essences. At this micro level the refinement of these virtues constitutes wealth.

At the macro level in the divine economy theory there shines the long-recognized concept of equilibrium. Equilibrium is beyond our comprehension. However, since humans are imperfect they are always functioning in a world of disequilibrium, with the tendency towards equilibrium. This mysterious and marvelous force, known as equilibrium, has a new definition. 'Divine economy' is the equilibrium force and in divine economy theory it is identified as a divine institution that is part of the human creation.

The economy exists because humans exist. Humans seeking after truth - knowledge - is what drives the economy always towards equilibrium and that is what brings prosperity, the grace of God. Human interference, called intervention, is always a corruption of this divine institution - the divine economy. Unquestionably, the finite can never comprehend the infinite. Intervention restricts the flow of information and always causes injustice and disunity.

Science, when the methodology is correct and when the bias of atheism is discarded, is a path that leads to God.

Before I begin I have to comment on the degree of importance currently placed on empirical economics and those who are convinced that it has merit. The mantra of these empirical economists: "If only the computers were faster and the bits of data were more precise!" For example, in the Boston Globe the following statement appeared: "Chairman Ben S. Bernanke is pushing the "factor model" program -- so named because it reduces everything from home sales to mining capacity into a few weighted averages for making predictions."

It is no wonder why there is a big void in economic understanding for most people.

At the center of the divine economy theory is the human being, not some automaton. The human reality at the core has all its potentialities. Primary among these is the spiritual reality understood universally as "created in His Image." That 'image' granted to every human being is manifested as the appearance of the attributes of God, such as beauty, trust, power, and love, to name a few.

Just like a moth cannot help but be attracted to light, every human being acts purposefully in ways that express some form of these attributes. Likewise, every human being is attracted by the appearance of these attributes in others, and in things. This attraction is another way of describing the idea that humans know what is valuable to them.

Ultimately everything that has value satisifies a need that somehow brings one of the attributes of God closer. Such an understanding is useful for all: those entrepreneurs seeking to discover what people value, those producers seeking the best ways to produce what people value, and those 'consumers' who benefit from the knowledge that the things we value are simply evidences that we are on a spiritual quest, true to our human reality.

Back to economic value. The object does not contain value. Therefore data cannot document value. For example, a car has value because it satisfies our quest for attributes that further our journey. It is also unlikely that the attributes that I seek in the car are exactly the same as that of another person. Each of our journeys is unique.

This is why subjectivism not empiricism is the correct methodology for economics. Despite what has been done up to now in economic science it is time to reorient. We have now entered a new era in economic science and the divine economy theory is the launching pad!

Divine Economy Theory And Democritis (c.470-c370 BC)

Of course I am also identifying the early contributions to the classical liberalism tradition but if words can be understood as a standard conveyor of meaning there are also glimmerings of divine theory from these early years.

Murray Rothbard gives the honorable distinction - of being the father of subjective value theory - to Democritis. He quotes Democritis as saying "The same thing" may be "good and true for all men, but the pleasant differs from one and another."

The second half of this statement demonstrates that people make decisions as individuals with unique needs and values, that is, subjectively.

The first half of the statement hints at a universal truth that defines the human operating system. What was a hint is now a known concept. The hinted at universal truth is that all human beings are created to know and love God whether conscious of it or not.

What the divine microeconomy theory proves is that it is the appearance of the attributes of God in every good and service that makes them desirable. All value in the human world manifests itself in the economy and the economy is a divine institution that connects the means and ends according to the 'truths' sought by the human reality. The human reality can be summed up by five words: purposeful action by spiritual beings.

Contrast this understanding with the glimmerings from 2376 years ago. In one way there is not much difference but in another way there is a vast difference. The spiritual understanding of how the world operates as elucidated by the divine economy theory moves economic science away from its infancy and towards its maturity.

Empirical Economists Forecast Worse Than Meteorologists!

When I was in college I took a meteorology class. One project was to use complex mathematical models to predict the effect of different objects on the microweather. How would a shift in wind direction alter the effect of a stationary object such as a tree on the microweather? These models were designed with great detail to incorporate the laws of physics to the 'infinite' degree.

What this proves is that meteorological events are extremely complex even at the microlevel. Is it any wonder why the daily weather forecasts (a macro event) are educated guesses? The weather forecast record demonstrates this fact.

It is no small task for the business owner to identify the attributes of his or her product that attract the buyers. As this is discerned the goal of the entrepreneur is to find a way to improve the delivery of this attribute either by product quality or quantity or by price or by the conveyence of information. Each entrepreneur is trying to accomplish this. The competitive entrepreneur also seeks ways to overcome the constraints of limited capital. Not all options are available even if discovered.

This does not offer much solace to a business that is suffering. Even in a divine economy there is no guarantee that an entrepreneur/producer will succeed (in serving the consumer). One thing is for sure though, in a divine economy there will not be competition from businesses that use the corruption of the interventionists to gain an unfair advantage.

In consideration of the work being done to uncover the relationship between the economy at the micro and macro levels I have adopted some of the terminology currently used in the economic journals and literature. I like the word 'microfoundation' as it is used which is to indicate that the microeconomy provides a foundation for the macroeconomy.

What is missing in the contemporary approach is the new definition of equilibrium as described in the divine economy theory. Also missing is use of the subjectivist methodology which creates a bridge between two previously dissociated aspects of human consciousness - science and religion.

This is not surprising since the divine economy theory is just emerging and is known by few.

Unabashedly I call out to India for two main reasons: it is basically English-speaking and because it has a rich spiritual foundation.

For social change to occur there has to be movement of a critical mass and so I have identified India as a potentially important catalyst. Let's look at how interventionism penetrates the economy to its core, which is - each and every one of us. The act of intervention at the macro level sooner or later affects and alters the market process in a way that prevents the accretion of value in the economic system.

Each act of intervention distorts the message communicated via the language of the economy. It is difficult to discuss a single cause and effect because of the cumulative nature of interventionism. Consequently the effect is best seen as a cumulative response.

For example, greed is a cumulative response that becomes manifest once a behavior becomes recurrent. If that behavior is done only once, the one and only expression of that tendency may be simply a selfish choice. A selfish choice is not far removed (in fact it is merely a subjective act) from a normal human behavior.

Now superimpose on this tendency the cumulative effects of interventionism, for example, the change of purchasing power that results from inflating the money supply. Pushed to get it now since the purchasing power is going to decline also pushes the individual to skew towards a negative expression, namely greed, of an inherently neutral human quality.

It is very difficult to identify what is the cause and what is the effect. Has materialism come about because economic science was void of a spiritual basis; or has economic science developed void of a spiritual basis because humanity was afflicted by materialism?

One outcome of materialism and a science that is confined to the constraints of materialism is intervention. Intervention is the manipulation of the economy by an entity with some degree of coersive power. Its purpose is to direct the economy. Only an ego that is inflated can assume to know what is best for everyone. If the interconnectedness of everyone is not understood then combine economic ignorance with an inflated ego as part of interventionism.

The application of short-sighted and limited knowledge upon a divine institution such as the economy has repercussions. One of the most spoken about repercussions is recession but beware, because the cause and cure spoken about is given from the perspective of materialism and/or economic science that is void of a spiritual basis.

We humans are always seeking refinement. Case in point is my effort to continually improve the presentation of the divine microeconomy. For instance, I am beginning to introduce graphics to facilitate understanding.

The word 'cumulative' describes the state of knowledge of each individual at every point in time.

If there is a failure in the type of knowledge that is acquired, that is not the fault of economics, but rather it is more accurate to ascribe such a failure to religion.

The task is to try to understand human action. The missing ingredient, which has now been added, is the divine nature of the human reality. This ingredient has not been missing in religion but rather it has been missing in scientific economics. What is true about human action is that action takes place as a result of the circumstances and the perception of those circumstances. What this means is that the effect may then stimulate an action which then causes an effect! This is a self-sustaining cycle.

Human action and how it manifests itself is what we are talking about. Inseparable from human action is the origin and essence of the human reality.

In the Divine Microeconomy Model © there are two parallel patterns. These patterns have a directional nature to them. For example, let us say they flow from left to right. With that visualization in your mind, overlay cause on the left and effect on the right, and again overlay east on the left and west on the right.

If my guess is correct you are wondering about the east/west pattern. It is symbolic! It is symbolic of the way Revelation comes from God. It is born in the east and it spreads and bears fruit in the west. That is the pattern and it is part of human reality. Since this model includes the spiritual nature of humans this pattern is a vital part.

Now consider cause and effect. All human action proceeds in this manner. But because this model recognizes the divine nature of human beings the origin of the cause is traced back even further.

For example, when an individual goes to a job interview with a clean appearance the cause and effect may be thought to be: 'clean appearance' leads to 'job offer.' Although the Divine Microeconomy Model © is simple relative to reality, it is still quite a complex model. However that does not mean it is difficult to understand or to follow.

Each plane holds within it an array of human virtues that I arbitrarily assigned to it, yet I based that assignment on the kindred nature between each virtue and the spiritual elements of its plane. Today is the day! It is the day that marks the beginning of a clear connection between the economy and the expressions of the human spirit. This is why religion plays a key role. Religion is what educates us about our inherent beauty and teaches us about the attributes of God.
